London Fashion Week

Well, I was lucky enough to be invited to a corporate event at London Fashion Week, this week and was fascinated to see the inner working of the fashion industry. Weirdly coincidental, given I only started this blog the morning before I received the invite.

Now I would not normally ever have the opportunity to attend something like this, haute couture has always been something I saw in magazines or on TV and is way beyond my meager means.

It was great - I saw Bora Aksu's Spring/Summer 2006 catwalk show and I actually liked what I saw - lots of muted tones and natural fabrics; heavily influenced by his Turkish background.

What I didn't like was the parade of stick insects (in other words, the models) showing off his work. What is it with fashion that says you have to be starved looking to showcase fashion. Now, I'm a generously curved individual and love clothes; I just don't like being made to feel in any way inadequate because 'the industry' tailors for a size 2. My wedding ring would have fit around the bicep of some of those girls!

Otherwise it was a great show and I'm off to 'London Fashion Weekend' to pick up some bargains (hopefully).
